Thurmont, Maryland is very close to Cunningham Falls State Park and Catoctin Mountain Park, the latter of which contains the presidential retreat of Camp David.

Eyler's Valley Chapel, a historic one-room chapel, is located in the Catoctin Mountains near Thurmont, MD.

Catoctin Furnace was constructed in 1774 to produce pig iron from locally mined hematite. In blast by 1776, the furnace provided ammunition (cannonballs) for the American Revolutionary War.
